Statement of Faith

This statement presents our beliefs regarding the theological truths of the Bible. They are the primary doctrines of the Christian faith, and they reflect the heart of the teaching of EL Community Church - Merida Inc.

Scriptures

We believe the Scriptures, both the Old and the New Testaments, to be the inspired word of God, without error in the original writings, the complete revelation of His will for the salvation of men, and the divine and final authority for all Christian faith and life.

References: 2 Timothy 3:16,17; 2 Peter 1:20,21.

God

We believe in one God, Creator of all things, infinitely perfect and eternally existing in three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

References: Deuteronomy 6:4; Psalm 18:30; Mathew 28:19; 1 Corinthians 8:6; 1 Timothy 2:5; and Revelation 4:11.

Jesus Christ

We believe that Jesus Christ is true God and true Man, having been conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He died on the cross as a sacrifice for our sins according to the Scriptures. Further, He rose bodily from the dead and ascended into heaven, where at the right hand of the majesty on high, He now is our High Priest and Advocate.

References: John 1:1; Matthew 1:18,23; 2 Corinthians 5:21; 1 Peter 2:24,25; 1 Corinthians 15:3,4; Acts 1:9-11; Hebrews 1:3; 1 John 2:1.

Holy Spirit

We believe that the ministry of the Holy Spirit is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ and during this age, to convict men, regenerate the believing sinner, and to indwell, guide, instruct and empower the believer for godly living and service.

References: John 16:8-11; 1 Corinthians 3:16; Romans 8:14; John 14:26.

Man

We believe that man was created in the image of God but fell into sin and is therefore lost and can obtain salvation only through regeneration by the Holy Spirit.

References: Genesis 1:26; Romans 5:12; 3:10,23; Ephesians 2:2,5.

Justification

We believe that the shed blood of Jesus Christ and His resurrection provide the only ground for justification and salvation for all who believe. Only those who receive Jesus Christ are born of the Holy Spirit and thus become the children of God.

References: Romans 3:24; Hebrews 9:22; John 1:12,13; 1 Peter 1:3.

The Ordinances of the Church

We believe that water baptism and the Lord's Supper are ordinances to be observed by the church during the present age. They are, however, not to be regarded as means of salvation.

References: Matthew 28:19; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26; Ephesians 2: 8,9.

The True Church

We believe that the True Church is composed of all persons, who through saving faith in Jesus Christ, have been regenerated by the Holy Spirit and are united together in the body of Christ of which he is the Head.

References: 1 Corinthians 12:13; Colossians 1:18; Ephesians 1:22,23; John 17:21.

Church Membership

We believe that only those who are members of the True Church shall be eligible for membership in the local church.

Reference: Acts 2:41,47.

Church Government

We believe that Jesus Christ is the Head of the Church and that every local church has the right under Christ to decide and govern its own affairs.

References: Acts 14:23; Acts 11:27-30.

The Return of the Lord

We believe in the personal and pre-millennial and imminent return of our Lord Jesus Christ and that this “blessed hope” has a vital bearing on the personal life and service of the believer.

References: Titus 2:13; 1 Thessalonians 4:16; Revelation 20:6; Matthew 24:42,44; 1 Corinthians 15:58.

The Two Resurrections

We believe in the bodily resurrection of the dead; of the believer to everlasting blessedness and joy with the Lord; of the unbeliever to judgment and everlasting conscious punishment.

References: 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18; Acts 24:15; 1 Corinthians 15:52,53; Revelation 20:6,14,15,21.
