Christ Comes to Save the Lost

Matthew 18:11

"For the Son of Man has come to save that which was lost. - Matthew 18:11 (NKJV)

In this concise yet profound statement, Jesus encapsulates the essence of His mission on earthā€”to seek and to save the lost. These words remind us of the unfathomable love and grace of our Savior, who willingly left the glories of heaven to pursue those who were lost in sin and darkness.

I. The Lost Condition of Humanity

Before we can fully appreciate the significance of Jesus' mission, we must acknowledge the reality of our lostness apart from Him. Scripture paints a sobering picture of humanity's spiritual conditionā€”alienated from God, enslaved to sin, and destined for eternal separation. We were helpless and hopeless, unable to save ourselves from the consequences of our rebellion.

II. The Compassion of the Savior

Despite our unworthiness, Jesus was moved with compassion toward us. He saw beyond our sin and brokenness to the preciousness of our souls. His heart was stirred with love for the lost, prompting Him to take action on our behalf. His mission was not motivated by duty or obligation but by a deep desire to rescue and redeem those who were far from God.

III. The Sacrificial Love of Christ

The magnitude of Jesus' love is seen in the sacrifice He was willing to make on the cross. He willingly laid down His life as a ransom for many, bearing the full weight of our sin and suffering the punishment that we deserved. His death was the ultimate expression of loveā€”the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.

IV. The Call to Repentance and Faith

Jesus' mission to seek and save the lost demands a response from each one of us. We are called to acknowledge our need for a Savior, to repent of our sin, and to place our faith and trust in Christ alone for salvation. Through faith in Him, we are reconciled to God, adopted into His family, and granted the gift of eternal life.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, we thank You for the matchless love and grace displayed in the mission of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Thank You for seeking us out when we were lost in sin and for providing salvation through His sacrificial death and resurrection. Help us, Lord, to respond to Your love with repentance and faith, surrendering our lives wholeheartedly to You. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.

May this devotional remind you of the incredible love and grace of our Savior, who came to seek and save the lost. May you respond to His invitation with repentance and faith, experiencing the fullness of life found in Him.
